Illustration Friday - "Garden"

Look what I discovered at the bottom of the garden... I know, it's the Cottingley Fairies incident all over again. I'll nip that in the bud - this is a fake!

The creature is ©Marketing and Promotional Services.
The background is ©Kevin Levell

I was experimenting with different background treatments for the PODZ creatures. On the collector cards they only ever appeared on abstracted and thematic backgrounds. I wanted to ground them in reality a bit more and I think the undergrowth helps this creature. Perhaps more other-worldly flora would be more appropriate, but it might distract also and end up too alien.

works for me Kev...I'm playing round with jungle foliage today so it's nice to see how well you've handled the background/surroundings on this one! Great colouring too.

Love the detail in this piece.

Nope! Keep it as it is! Your background already is ethereal enough. I love it.

Interesting piece - keep experimenting although I like this as is. Creature looks like someone I once dated in college, Whew, glad those years are over. Nice work.

Great background, really enhances the creature. The trees give just the right hint of the 'other-worldly' feel.
