Elephant Research

My good friend and ex-colleague Matt Dawson did a few pieces of work for a courageous lady called Kate Evans who works with elephants in Botswana.
Our mutual pal, Phil (a source of much inspiration) first suggested that Matt contact Kate, and recently suggested I submit something for her to use in her ongoing fund raising activities too. I submitted the piece below. As she is often out of the country (understandably) I haven't heard whether she would like to use the piece. I'm a little short of suitable Blog material and thought I would share this piece with you all here in the information landfill.

To see more about the work Kate does, please pop along to the elephant research website. To see more of the work Matt does, check out his blog via the handy link above.

Very Nice Kev.
Nice muted palette and you've managed to give the young elephant a kind of playful look.

This is a beautiful piece, I really like the desaturation at his feet. What medium is this?

Thanks to you all for your really kind comments.

Paul, I did this digitally in Photoshop. I do lots of layers, and paint "textures" on soft light/multiply layers to create "washes" - hopefully it all works and I get something I'm happy with.

Hey Kev, I've told you already how much I like this piece, but the more I look at it the more I love it. The line work is just so... elephant! The line and colour together create an image that just so vivid and lifelike. Kate's going to love it!

Ps. Thanks for your words in brackets, it means alot.
