2000AD Prog 1 Redux

Warren Ellis is running a fun competition over on his web forum.

The brief:
You are an artist/designer. You have to put together the cover for the first issue of a weekly science-fiction anthology comic called 2000AD. You don't know much about what's in it. You've been given the following pieces of information to include on the cover somehow:
"featuring the new DAN DARE"
"M.A.C.H. 1 - his incredible hyperpower will amaze you!"
"SPACE-AGE DINOSAURS! Read 'FLESH' "
"STOP PRESS! GREAT BRITAIN INVADED!"
The cover must include a logo and the numbering, which you've been told is not the usual "issue one," but "Programme 1."

I thought it would be funny if Dan Dare had been a girl for the relaunch... The image is from something I did previously, but didn't want to show here at the time.

That's really, really cool. I'd love to do something like that, making up some new slant on a classic 2000ad or Action cover with all the classic logo headers

Great colours and lighting in your pic too. It's just great, really like it.

Warren Ellis says "ROCK" and you can't get much better than that ;)

Hey Kev, great retro look and faded effect. Looks like you had lots of fun with this one! Yet another fine feather for your cap Sir #:-) Bertie

With all the attempts to reboot good old Dan Dare, I can't help but think but Danni Dare would be quite a good way to go about it. Her old man & his old crew could still be up & around in the background, and there's no reason why the series couldn't be respectful of the Hampson past & modern at the same time. Ah ... wishful thinking of course, but it says something for your charming cover that it set me off thinking so!

Really nice retro graphic treatment Kev. You've hit the late sixties spot on without going overboard on extraneous detail. Perhaps a fiddle with the saturation/colour balance on your illustration might have aged it somewhat... but I still love your colour palette on that one, it has real vibrancy and depth!
